Abstract/Summary

The development and growth of the construction industry in the National Capital Region entails the need for companies to integrate quality standards to their project performance. Hence, Total Quality Management practices, namely leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, workforce focus, operations focus, measurement, analysis, and knowledge management, and results are essential factors in ensuring that the quality and success of construction projects are not compromised. Seeing how the construction industry is a major contributor to the Philippine economy, this study focuses on investigating the impact of adopting the TQM practices to the project performance of the construction firms within the National Capital Region. The study utilized a mixed method approach with a total sample size of 62 respondents. The respondents of the study comprises of managers from small, medium, and large-scale construction firms. Selected construction firms were also interviewed, representing the managers from small, medium, and large firms. The findings show that all the TQM practices have significant relationships with project performance. Similarly, all practices had a significant impact on the construction firm’s project performance. Meanwhile, the result from multiple linear regression analysis showed that Results (p < 0.05) was the only significant variable when all of the TQM variables were tested with project performance. The pattern-matching result showed that while all of the variables were used, companies gave emphasis to providing good outcomes at the end of the project. With this, it is beneficial for firms to prioritize Results, but still give attention to the other TQM practices.
