Abstract/Summary

NeoRomantica is a narrative anthology podcast series that aims to show love and romance in the online sphere. With each episode featuring a story that is grounded in real-life experiences, the stories are able to resonate with everyone in the context of the pandemic. NeoRomantica tries to show how we traverse a world where online relationships have become the norm.

The pilot episode SENTIENCE, revolves around Miko, a game developer who reveals the backstory behind his upcoming game: it is a homage to Jaime, someone he met online and eventually formed a relationship with. In the episode, we learn that online relationships should not be judged with the same lens we use to judge real-life relationships because they are essentially different. The pilot episode provides a preview on the writing, thematics, and style of the entire NeoRomantica podcast series.

Voice acting, recording, and directions were done remotely to follow COVID-19 protocols, with read-throughs done through Zoom meetings. The podcast was edited in Adobe Audition; sound effects and music were sourced through a monthly Epidemic Sound subscription. As games were a centerpiece in the narrative, audio immersion was a significant part of the editing process; and the sound design for these games were completely made from scratch.
