Abstract (English)

Guided by Snow et al.’s (1986) frame alignment processes and Snow and Benford’s (1988) core framing tasks, this study aims to determine the presence of core framing tasks and frame alignment processes in Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights’ (WGNRR) digital and non-digital messages and investigate how they are being utilized to advocate for SRHR among Luzon-based civil society organizations and grassroots organizations. Directed qualitative content analysis was conducted with WGNRR’s social media posts, website articles, and semi-structured interviews with stakeholders. Findings reveal that all frame alignment processes were used in WGNRR’s digital and non-digital messages, but its utilization differed in terms of execution potentially due to digital and non-digital platform affordances and features that enable and restrict framing efforts. This study highlights the opportunities associated with SMO’s use of non-digital framing strategies as compared to digital framing strategies. Findings also revealed WGNRR’s diagnostic, prognostic, and motivational frames communicated within its digital and non-digital messages that enable them to facilitate a shared understanding of SRHR to their stakeholders. This study extends Snow et al.’s (1986) frame alignment processes and Snow and Benford’s (1988) core framing tasks, contributing to the growing literature on how SMOs frame social issues and shift public perceptions with the use of different platforms and framing strategies.
