Abstract (English)
Creatives In Progress (CIP) is a multimedia website that aims to aid aspiring Creative Media Production (CMP) professionals in the early stages of their careers. The platform aims to function as an educational and experiential online resource, serving as a “starter pack” for young CMP professionals to bridge the gap between their academically attained knowledge and the usual competencies demanded by the industry through accessible, industry-relevant, and localized materials.
The CMP industry showcases great promise as a lucrative and dynamic market. However, despite exhibiting substantial growth as an industry, fresh graduates, often young adults aged 18 to 25 years old, experience difficulty entering their chosen fields in the CMP industry. This difficulty is often associated with the lack of resources, credibility, connections, and skills demanded from CMP entrants. And despite the abundance of online resources and learning platforms that cater to the aforementioned challenges, the majority of them available operate from a global perspective. This thesis explores and addresses this gap by providing credible and locally relevant resources tailored to the specific needs of aspiring CMP professionals.
The CIP website is composed of three major components: 1. Featured Stories, ten articles written about the success and lived experiences of Filipino CMP professionals across a variety of specializations. The reading experience is kept immersive through the accompaniment of photographs and videos. 2. Modules, four modules, with three lessons each, on the topics of Building a Personal Brand, Managing Resources, Relationships, and Freelancing and Entrepreneurship. Through written content, curation of external resources, and helpful activities, the modules aim to provide practical and relevant learning for their users. 3. Discussion Forum, the moderated Reddit threads dedicated to cultivating a community for young CMP professionals, creating a space for them to participate directly in conversations with like-minded creatives and professionals.
At the heart of this platform is the creators’ desire to bridge the gap between academically attained knowledge and typical workforce barriers experienced by aspiring CMP professionals, and cultivate an improved CMP industry that makes space for any creative, no matter their age, experience, or background.
