Abstract (English)
Water pollution by synthetic dyes such as Rhodamine B (RhB) remains a critical environmental issue due to their toxicity, persistence, and resistance to conventional treatment methods. This study investigates the development and photocatalytic performance of WO₃/CuFe₂O₄ nanocomposites synthesized at varying weight ratios (67%, 50%, 33%) for visible-light degradation of RhB under acidic photo-Fenton conditions (pH 3–3.5) with sodium percarbonate (SPC) as the oxidant. Structural analysis confirmed composite formation, crystallite size variation, and interfacial lattice strain between WO₃ and CuFe₂O₄, which influenced optical properties and charge-transfer behavior. Band-edge positions were estimated using the Mulliken electronegativity method to explain the heterojunction’s electronic alignment. Photocatalytic tests showed that the composites, particularly the 67% WO₃ sample, exhibited enhanced degradation efficiency within 90 minutes compared to individual components, attributed to improved visible-light absorption and synergistic WO₃–CuFe₂O₄ interaction. The findings demonstrate that WO₃/CuFe₂O₄ is a promising catalyst system for dye-contaminated wastewater treatment and provide insights into structural and electronic factors that govern photocatalytic performance.
