Abstract (English)
Lactuca sativa is a commonly cultivated plant using Hydroponics in the Philippines. A growing demand for the plant coupled with harsh environmental conditions paves a way to innovate existing agricultural methods. An Arduino-managed environment employs a new way of analyzing plant environments that is both instant and affordable. In this research project, parameters controlled and monitored by an Arduino Uno Microcontroller such as light intensity, and pH were analyzed using the effects they have on plant’s quality, zinc content, calcium content, and vitamin C content. Atomic Absorption Spectrometry was used to determine calcium and zinc content while High Performance Liquid Chromatography was used to determine vitamin C content. It was found that the Lactuca sativa’s physical parameters are ideal when extreme pH and light conditions are minimized. It was also found that calcium and zinc content are greater at higher and lower light intensities, respectively, while vitamin C content is greater at pH 5 - 6 and low light intensities.
