Abstract (English)

Mt. Marami, a popular hiking destination in Maragondon, Cavite, at 405 meters above sea level and a 360-degree view with the signature “Silyang Bato” (stone seat) peak. However, its biological significance had often been unrecognized, and with limited literature on the area’s floral diversity—coupled with increasing biodiversity loss due to expanding human activities—there was a growing need for preliminary studies. This study aimed to address that need by providing a preliminary checklist of the vascular plant species found along the trails of Mt. Marami and by assessment of their conservation and endemicity status, in order to establish foundational data for biodiversity conservation strategies. The researchers employed purposive sampling along the hiking trail from the jump-off point to the summit to maximize species detection. For accurate identification, plant species in reproductive stages were given priority during collection. Each specimen was documented through photography and collected for preservation and morphological analysis. A total of 114 plant species were collected across 42 families, with 87 genera recorded. The three most species-rich families were Rubiaceae (18.42%), Fabaceae (13.16%), and Lamiaceae (5.26%). Notably, 71 plants were native to the Philippines, with 11 of those endemic only to the Philippines; three species were identified as vulnerable, and 64 remained not assessed. The findings highlighted the ecological importance of Mt. Marami and provided valuable insights for biodiversity monitoring, conservation planning, and environmental education.

Mt. Marami, isang sikat na destinasyon para sa hiking sa Maragondon, Cavite. Kilala ito sa taas nitong 405 metro mula sa antas ng dagat, 360-degree na tanawin, at ang tanda nitong "Silyang Bato" sa tuktok. Subalit, sa kabila ng katanyagan nito, ang biyolohikal na kahalagahan ng bundok ay madalas na hindi napapansin. Dahil sa limitadong literatura tungkol sa pagkakaiba-iba ng mga halaman sa lugar—at ang patuloy na pagbaba ng biodiversity dahil sa paglawak ng mga gawain ng tao—lumalaki ang pangangailangan para sa mga paunang pag-aaral.

Layunin ng pag-aaral na ito na tugunan ang pangangailangang iyon sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng paunang checklist ng mga vascular plant species na matatagpuan sa mga daanan ng Mt. Marami, at pagtatasa ng kanilang katayuan sa konserbasyon at endemisidad, upang makabuo ng batayang datos para sa mga estratehiya sa pangangalaga ng biodiversity.

Gumamit ang mga mananaliksik ng purposive sampling sa kahabaan ng hiking trail mula jump-off point hanggang sa summit upang mapakinabangan ang pagtuklas ng mga species. Upang matiyak ang tamang pagkilala, binigyang-priyoridad ang mga halaman na nasa reproduktibong yugto sa panahon ng koleksyon. Bawat ispesimen ay naidokumento sa pamamagitan ng litrato at kinolekta para sa preserbasyon at morpolohikal na pagsusuri.

Umabot sa 114 na uri ng halaman ang nakolekta mula sa 42 pamilya, na kumakatawan sa 87 genera. Ang tatlong pamilyang may pinakamaraming species ay ang Rubiaceae (18.42%), Fabaceae (13.16%), at Lamiaceae (5.26%). Kapansin-pansin, 71 sa mga halaman ay katutubo sa Pilipinas, at 11 dito ay endemiko sa bansa. Tatlong species ang natukoy na mahina (vulnerable) ayon sa konserbasyon status, habang 64 na species ang nanatiling hindi nasuri (not evaluated).

Binibigyang-diin ng mga natuklasang ito ang ekolohikal na halaga ng Mt. Marami at nagbibigay ng mahahalagang impormasyon para sa pagsubaybay ng biodiversity, pagpaplano ng konserbasyon, at edukasyong pangkalikasan.
