Abstract (English)
Jasminum species are used for various economic, medicinal, cultural, and aesthetic purposes. Diseases in plants can affect their production potential. Jasminum species are found to have been affected by foliar and vascular diseases. Disease-causing pathogens come from fungi, bacteria, viruses, and nematodes. Various literature on disease-causing pathogens affecting Jasminum spp. were utilized to conduct a thematic review. The thematic review revealed that sixty-three (63) Jasminum species have been recorded as host pathogens. Jasminum sambac has the greatest number of reported pathogens, at 16.8%. Pathogenic fungi make up most pathogens known to infect Jasminum spp. Pathogens include Cercospora spp., Uromyces spp., Colletotrichum spp., Meliola spp., and many more. Diseases such as anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum species, can significantly reduce the yield and quality of jasmine flowers. In fungal diseases, chemical pesticides are used for different types of infections, such as fungal wilt and collar wilt caused by Fusarium spp. Cultural methods can help mitigate disease management without compromising possible human health caused by chemical controls. Several researchers have contributed to studying jasmine disease, and these authors came from different parts of the world, with Kevin D. Hyde of Thailand’s Mae Fuah Luang University producing the most research involving jasmine disease. Additionally, fungi were isolated from Jasminum sambac leaves. The suspected pathogen was found to be Aspergillus sp. according to its morphological characteristics. However, bacterial pathogens were also isolated, highlighting the possible pathogens persisting in J. sambac apart from fungal pathogens. This study emphasizes the importance of monitoring, plant disease investigation, and collaboration among agricultural practitioners, scientists, and horticulturists to mitigate the adverse impact of diseases on jasmine cultivation and improve the health of jasmine plants.
