Abstract (English)

This study examines the factors influencing undergraduate students' career intentions in pursuing a career in public practice. Conducted at De La Salle University-Manila, the research methodology involved the collection of 100 closed questionnaires, utilizing a 5-point Likert scale for participant responses. The analytical framework comprised independent sample t-tests, one-sample t-tests, regression analysis, and structural equation modeling to derive insights. The study's results revealed that the factors, namely difficulty in attaining a CPA License, work environment, referent groups, societal prestige, and labor market considerations, exert positive and significant influence over students' inclinations toward a public accounting career. On the other hand, factors such as financial rewards and grade point average exhibit significant but negative influence. Despite these findings, the study's limitations underscore the necessity for future research to explore additional factors, potentially through integrating qualitative research methodologies and examining alternative theories. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the necessity of recalibrating recruitment strategies within the public accounting sector to better resonate with the evolving preferences of the current generation. This strategic adaptation is crucial for addressing the persistent challenges associated with talent retention in this professional domain.
