Abstract (English)

Cloud-based accounting solutions have transformed the accounting and auditing environment through efficient and effective features that allow optimal performance. The main purpose of the study is to provide an understanding of the mediating effect of cloud-based accounting system adoption on the relationship between technological advancement and the efficiency and effectiveness of audit practice in the Top 4 auditing firms in the Philippines. Variables that are categorized in two: effective and efficiency factors, which measure the performance and effect of the adoption of cloud-based accounting systems, have been identified and measured in this study. The researchers conducted an online survey, and a total of 113 Filipino external auditors from the Top 4 audit firms in the country participated. The survey questionnaire underwent validity and reliability tests through content validation and Cronbach’s Alpha testing. The gathered data was then analyzed through Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS. Results showed that technological advancement has a direct effect on the effectiveness factors of the auditing practice, while it has an insignificant effect on efficiency factors. Also, the adoption of cloud-based accounting systems was found to have an indirect effect on the relationship between technological advancement and efficiency and effectiveness factors of the auditing practice. This contributes to addressing Sustainable Development Goal #9 - Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure as cloud-based accounting systems promote sustainable and revolutionary industrialization in the accounting industry.
