Abstract (English)

Due to the abundance of data, there is a need for big data analytics (BDA) and individuals with the skills to analyze large amounts of unstructured data. However, while accountants have the business acumen, they lack the technical skills associated with BDA. To bridge the gap, future professionals may start studying BDA at the undergraduate level; however, there is a significant lack of BDA-related offerings, especially in the field of accountancy. This calls for universities to address the deficiency by offering BDA-related programs. This paper assesses the viability of introducing a BSADA program at DLSU-M. In conducting this study, the researchers crafted a program design for BSADA that was benchmarked from the curricula of different universities and the standards set by governing bodies. They also used a mixed-method research design wherein qualitative interviews were conducted with select professors and professionals to gather their insights on the initial program design. Afterward, modifications were made based on the interviewees’ responses, which were subsequently followed by the deployment of the survey questionnaires to BSA and Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) students. After processing the data using descriptive analysis, the results show that the formulated BSADA program piques the interest of most respondents and aligns with their prospective career opportunities. The program is marketable among BSA and ABM students in DLSU-M, as both populations show significant interest in the proposed curriculum.
