Abstract/Summary
This study proposes an outreach program of La Salette High School for the community of Santiago. The descriptive method of research was used in this study. The variables that were analyzed included the felt needs of the client communities and the resource capabilities of La Salette High School and its linkage groups such as the civic and religious organizations, agencies and institutions based in the municipality of Santiago. There were three types of questionnaires that were used in this study. The first was the Resource Capability Questionnaire and the second was the Material Resource Questionnaire, both of which were formulated by the researcher. The third questionnaire was the Community Needs Assessment Questionnaire-Checklist which was adapted from the instrument of Sister Nacionales (1976). The subjects of this study were the students, non-teaching personnel, faculty and administrators of the school. Also included were the officers and members of the school's outreach linkage groups and the barangay captains in the community of Santiago. The 84 student respondents were officers of the different year levels and school organizations. Also among the respondents were 12 administrators, 70 faculty and 18 non-teaching personnel. For the client community, all 37 barangay captains answered the needs assessment questionnaire. The presidents/chairmen of the school's linkage groups such as the civic and religious organizations, agencies and institutions, were also respondents of this study. There were 17 respondents from this group.
In the light of the findings of the study, it was concluded that the economic need was the community's first priority need followed by health, socio-cultural and spiritual needs. The limited involvement of La Salette High School in outreach activities was attributed to the absence of a well-organized and functional outreach program in the school. There were adequate and interested manpower resources from the three groups of outreach participants who were equipped with extensive training in the performance of the different outreach services needed by the client community. They could be tapped for training others. The students could provide vital assistance to professionals in the performance of most of the outreach activities. Also, there were available financial and physical resources that would serve as vital support in the performance of outreach activities. An outreach program can be drawn that would contain the following: 1. Organizational structure of the proposed outreach program. 2. Program of activities and strategies directed towards the realization of the goals and objectives of the proposed outreach program. 3. Monitoring scheme and strategies needed in the implementation process. 4. Evaluation scheme needed in the careful assessment of the program.
