Abstract/Summary

The study formulates the mission statement, institutional goals and departmental objectives of Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod. This study used the descriptive survey method of research. Dialogue-meetings and review of pertinent documents were also done. To ensure a wide participation among the institution's constituents, the following subjects were chosen for the study: administrators, faculty, non-academic staff, parents, students and college graduates of CSA-B. The total number of respondents were 200. To assess the institutional goals of CSA-B, the Institutional Goals Inventory (IGI), developed by the Educational Testing Service in New Jersey (1972), was used. The results of the survey served as the initial input in the formulation of the mission statement. Weighted means were computed to get the item mean, goal area mean, individual group mean and total group mean for the IGI, after which the goal areas were prioritized and the proposed mission statement was drafted. Afterwards, the institutional goals and objectives, through the collaborative efforts of the school's constituencies, were formulated. The assessment of the institutional goals of CSA-B led to an awareness of the desirable goals which the the constituents prefer the institution to emphasize, and to respond to these findings, the mission statement, institutional goals and objectives were geared towards meeting the expressed intention of the subjects of the study.

The goal areas identified through the Institutional Goals Inventory which deserve priority attention were: Augustinian Character, Academic Development, Intellectual Orientation, Individual Personal Development, Traditional Religiousness, Cultural/Aesthetic Awareness, Vocational Preparation and Social Egalitarianism, Community, Moral/Ethical/Spiritual, Intellectual Aesthetic Environment and Duties of Citizenship. The mission statement focused on Virtue and Science, which characterized the distinctive qualities of an Augustinian graduate, giving emphasis on the acquisition of genuine and specialized knowledge, Intellectual Orientation, Individual Personal Development, Cultural Aesthetic Awareness, Traditional Religiousness, Vocational Preparation and Social Egalitarianism. It was also concluded that the mission statement is a dynamic document which has to be constantly renewed to answer to the needs of the times.
