Abstract/Summary

This study was concerned with the adjustment problems of foreign graduate students enrolled in Philippine universities. One hundred forty-six foreign graduate students from among a group of two hundred fifty were the reference points of this study. Literature and studies related to adjustment problems were reviewed to determine areas that support the study. On the basis of the assumption that foreign graduate students will have varying adjustment problems in a new culture and a new environment, a questionnaire was constructed and administered to the participants of six universities in Metro Manila, Philippines. The students selected had to be enrolled for the school year 1981-1982. The findings showed that adjustment problems exist in various facets of the individuals, some to a greater and others to a lesser degree. The strongest problem was homesickness. The questionnaire yielded numerous suggestions from the survey population and these were made a part of the measures presented to the six chosen universities in the form of remedial actions. One of the recommendations by the researcher was that a yearly evaluation be carried out to check on the effectiveness of the remedial programs.
