Abstract/Summary

The study investigates and determines the predictive validity of the high school admission indices at the University of San Agustin in Iloilo. A descriptive, correlational-predictive design was employed. Two grade point averages, GPA 1 and GPA 4, were identified as criterion or dependent variables while two standardized tests Otis-Lennon Mental Ability Test (OLMAT) and Culture Fair Intelligence Test (CFIT) scores, sex, type, and location of feeder elementary school comprised the predictor or independent variables.Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. On the effectiveness of the admission tests: a. The OLMAT is valid for prediction of high school scholastic success at the University of San Agustin, and, as such, it is useful for admission purposes. b. The CFIT, the other standardized test used by the school, is not sufficiently adequate for prediction of high school academic success.c.Grade six academic average (GSAA) is also a potent predictor of high school performance. d. OLMAT-IQ scores alone could be adequate for prediction of high school scholastic success grade six academic averages (GSAA) alone is also a somewhat adequate predictor of high school academic success but the combined use of OLMAT-IQ scores, GSAA, and Sex yielded a higher prediction index than either of the predictors alone. Thus, simultaneous use of these three predictor variables is the valid procedure for admission and classification of students at the University High School.
