Abstract/Summary

This study proposes a faculty development program for Fellowship Baptist College High School Department, Kabankalan, Negros Occidental based on the assessed and prioritized needs of the teacher-respondents. The study used the descriptive type of research to determine the needs of the faculty members. The respondents of the study consisted of 25 teachers, including the principal, which comprised the whole teacher population of the high school department of Fellowship Baptist College. The development survey form and development needs checklist, prepared by the researcher, were used to gather the data needed in this study. A questionnaire entitled Development needs checklist, patterned after the questionnaire used by Ataviado (1977), was used to identify the needs of the faculty members. The findings of the study indicated that majority of the respondents were young. There were nineteen junior teachers (whose teaching experience ranged from 0-8 years) and six senior teachers (whose teaching experience ranged from 9 years and above). It was also found out that faculty retention was fair, that is, the teachers were expected to continue teaching in the said school. The teachers have major needs with regards to professional and personal development. Therefore, the program for development must be based on the findings or results of the development needs survey. Proposed development plans include in-institutional programs (activities planned and organized by the school through the Faculty Development Committee) and Out-institutional programs (activities planned and organized outside the school which the teachers can attend). The proposed program must be implemented to develop the teachers personally and professionally.
