Abstract/Summary

The first part of this study surveys the technical manpower demands in Dasmarinas, Cavite for placement purposes of the graduates of Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC). The study made use of the descriptive research design using the survey method. Fifteen companies in Dasmarinas, Cavite responded to the survey. Actual number of respondents were six secretaries and nine engineers. The researcher adapted a manpower demands survey questionnaire from the Rotary Club (1982) and from the Technical Vocational Industrial Survey Questionnaire. The questionnaire contained several aspects: job opportunities, manpower demands, qualifications needed, benefits, employment procedure, salary scales or range, types of technician program and hiring preferences. Frequency counts and percentages were computed to facilitate the analysis and interpretation of data. The survey revealed that a good number of the respondent companies (14 out of 15) were willing to accept on-the-job training for students. The survey results also indicated that to get a career in the technical field one needed to have a thorough educational preparation and training, a good attitude towards work and must qualify in the performance test given by the companies. The second part of the study proposes a career guidance program for Emilio Aguinaldo College specifically for the Polytechnic department. It also aims to determine the needs of the students with regards to the different aspects of their career as bases for the career program. The descriptive research design using the normative survey method was employed in this study. The population consisted of twenty-five (25) first year and thirty-five (35) second year Polytechnic students, selected at random by the technical director. The researcher adopted a student needs assessment survey questionnaire from the counselor's Handbook (1982, first edition) which contained the following subtopics: clarifying values, making decisions, planning ways to study better, planning career, developing career awareness and explori
