Abstract/Summary
This study evaluates the effectiveness of the student development programs in the high school department of Holy Cross College of Calinan. The study employed the descriptive evaluative method of research. It described the student development programs of the high school department of Holy Cross College of Calinan, and evaluated their effectiveness to determine the attainment of program objectives. The method consisted of gathering data with the use of questionnaires, interpreting the data based on statistical treatment, and coming up with an evaluation report. The evaluators of the student development programs were the administrators, club moderators, and high school students. The total number of respondents consisted of 250 students, 2 administrators and 10 moderators. Two separate sets of questionnaires (one for the students and one for the club moderators and administrators) were used. The instruments were adapted from Sebastian (1982), Garces (1980), and the Evaluative Criteria for Secondary School Evaluation of Student Activities by the National Study of Secondary School Evaluation, 1969. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the high school students in Holy Cross College of Calinan were extensively involved in both the co-curricular and extra-curricular programs of the school. The facilities and staff provided for the student development programs were generally adequate. However, there was a need to improve the leadership skills and competence in guidance and supervision of club moderators.
It was also found that the schedule of activities did not allow maximum student participation. But the students' participation in the activities of the programs were quite extensive. The activities that were always or often participated in by the students were religious and social in nature and were found quite effective in attaining the objectives of the program. The provisions for the implementation of the student development programs were moderately extensive and were functioning well. However, the provisions for feedback to keep track of the progress of the programs and the participants were functioning poorly. In general, the objectives of the student development programs in the high school department of Holy Cross College of Calinan were moderately achieved. Among the objectives, the development of the students' spiritual growth, and the social and civic consciousness were extensively achieved. The development of leadership and aesthetic sense were moderately achieved.
