Abstract/Summary

This study surveys the administrative practices of the secondary school principals of NDA and NDJ in the province of Leyte. The study utilized the descriptive survey method of research, using the questionnaire as the main source of data. The data obtained were analyzed to determine the prevailing conditions and practices of administrators in the educational institutions under study. The respondents were seven (7) teachers from Notre Dame of Jaro and twenty (20) teachers from Notre Dame of Abuyog, Leyte. The research instrument used was the questionnaire developed by Azarcon (1981), with some modifications, to make it applicable to the schools studied. The data gathered were tabulated and analyzed. Percentage was used to describe and determine averages in the teachers' age, sex, educational attainment and teaching experience. The weighted arithmetic mean was used to describe the overall perceptions of the teachers. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the teachers' perception of the administrative practices in the areas of planning, organizing, directing and controlling as perceived by the school principals of both schools ranges from regularly to often. This showed the frequency and effectiveness of the administrative practices of the secondary school principals. It was recommended that further improvement of the administrative functions of the secondary school principals was needed and that the Society of the Oblates of Notre Dame should carefully plan and organize a development program for administrators along the areas of planning, organizing, directing and controlling. The school principals should be encouraged to grow professionally by availing themselves of opportunities for further studies specifically on educational management. It was also recommended that similar studies be conducted in schools administered by the Oblates of Notre Dame not only in the province of Leyte but in other schools in Cebu and North Cotabato as well.
