Abstract/Summary
This study involves determining the relationship of the different individual, organizational, and institutional factors on whistleblowing intentions of employees from three power generation companies in the Philippines. In addition, this study also involves the analysis of the sufficiency of the whistleblower provisions of the Philippine Competition Act and the Labor Code of the Philippines in terms of ensuring protection and motivation to corporate whistleblowers.
The results showed that there is no statistical significance between the individual and organizational factors and whistleblowing intentions. However, the impact of social norms, in particular, fear of retaliation and negative reputation, and the failure of government to protect public sector whistleblowers have a substantial effect on the decision of employees to not blow the whistle. In addition, it was concluded that the provisions of the Philippine Competition Act and the Labor Code of the Philippines are insufficient to provide adequate protection to corporate whistleblowers.
Recommendations for management and for the improvement of the Philippine Competition Act and the Labor Code of the Philippines are also provided by the study.
