Abstract/Summary
Purpose. The purpose for this action research proposal is to generate a positive synergy within the purchasing department of Miami Tools Supplies. Refining processes and creating strategies such as having effective communication, efficient dispatch of deliverables, role clarifications, coordination and collaboration.
Design. This action research is heavily influenced by the methodology upholded by Coghlan and Brannick. The use of the action research cycle, techniques and methods such as the three audience skills, types of inquiry, four parts of speech, ORJI, ladder of inference, left-hand column, hypothesis testing and journaling were used. Lastly, the ultimate goal of collaboration was advocated and practiced.
Findings. The investment in time and effort in knowing and earning the trust of your collaborators initially, is a way of priming us to feel and understand the action research itself which resulted to an effective implementation and efficient transition of the cycles. Also, an extrapolation to a broader knowledge and usable knowledge have been produced.
Value. This study contributes academically and practically to students and organizations that have the same or relevant situation such as us in spite of facing longer time in the construction of issue, discouragement and trust issues. Being small does not mean that we can be less when it comes to improvement and progress.
Research limitations. This action research is only focused on the activities surrounding the purchasing department of Miami Tools Supplies. Findings and theories found to be useful for this study may not and/or can’t be directly applied to any organizations.
