Abstract/Summary
To assist with the development and industrial growth of KSB Philippines, a fairly new company with its headquarters in Germany and to complete the requirements of the practicum, the design of pumps and valves, their various types and the fluids handled by them here in the Philippines has been detailed in this report. The main reasoning behind the details of the study of the design is to aid in the analysis of the fault and failure further on into the practicum duration. This required intensive site visits, in addition with coordination with the service engineering team followed by a standalone analysis of the pump in question, identifying the fault and also rectifying the error. The need for fault and failure analysis is to protect the company’s image and to prevent unwarranted warranty claims from problems that may or may not arise due to the faults in the pump or the valves supplied by the company. The critical analysis of every component of the pump along with their function, material of construction and the pump parameters play a vital role in assisting with this. In addition to the analysis, the reading of a pump curve was understood, along with the various parameters involved such as the head, flow, discharge pressure, NPSH available and required for pumps, affinity laws and both the manual and software selection for different kinds of pumps for various applications. Additionally, to assist with the company’s day to day activities and business functions, quotations for different pumps from the different factories of KSB were prepared, accounting for their lead time, scope of supply, availability and if they matched the client requirements along with the technical concerns (if any). Presentations and meetings with the clients were new realms I was exposed to, aiding in understanding of the industrial environment and business relationships when it comes to real-world expertise. The deep knowledge of pumps, valves along with working within an integrated industrial structure provided the much needed experience and exposure required for this practicum project.
