Abstract/Summary

The present study was primarily conducted to determine the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavior Therapy Based Psycho-Education on Reducing the Level of Anxiety and Depression of Filipino Adolescent Girls from Separated Parents. Twenty nine participants from first year to fourth year high school participated in this program. The study employed the Pre-test, Post test Waitlist Control group design. Beck’s Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck’s Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Clinical Outcome in Routine Evaluation Outcome Measure (CORE- OM) were used as measures in Pre and Post tests. The program utilized the main component of cognitive restructuring in three themes. Mainly: 1) How thoughts affect feelings; 2) Automatic thoughts; and 3) Cognitive distortions. The results indicated effectiveness of CBT based psycho-education program on adolescents in reducing the level of anxiety and depression. The results supported the hypothesis of the study and answered the research questions. The findings show that CBT based psychoeducation is effective and applicable in the Philippines specifically for adolescents coming from separated parents. Based on these results, recommendations were forwarded for the development of treatment program in the school setting and future research considerations.
