Abstract/Summary

This study attempts to survey the knowledge of and attitudes towards marriage of the youth of Binondo parish, as a basis for proposing a pre-cana pastoral guidance program.

The research design used in this study is descriptive in nature. A questionnaire was developed in order to measure their knowledge of and attitudes towards marriage. This was administered to a sample of the youth in Binondo. It covers 100 youth of Binondo Parish (50 males and 50 females), who are between the ages of 18-24 years, chosen through multi stage sampling. The instrument was expected to yield information that would pinpoint the knowledge and attitudes of the youth of Binondo towards marriage and their characteristics and their attitudes towards pre-cana pastoral guidance program.

Based on the findings of the study, the youth of Binondo lack pre-cana pastoral guidance. However, they have a very positive attitude towards a pre-cana pastoral guidance program. Another, there is a keen desire among the youth of Binondo to know about family planning, mutual love, courtship and general knowledge about marriage.

The findings of the study clearly point to the need for a proposed model of a pre-cana pastoral guidance program. Thus the proposed pre-cana pastoral guidance program was drawn.
