Abstract/Summary
It has been the practice and observation, that most of the times, learning experiences happen inside the four walls of a confined classroom. This article will give us some techniques or innovations on how to facilitate more effectively science lessons particularly to those who have difficulty in coping up the discussions. Low performing students consistently get low grades in their subjects maybe because of the poor teaching strategies that the teacher is using. The research will focus exposure of students to various activities to be conducted outside of the classroom instead of doing it in the traditional and usual way. Activities done outside of the classroom may arouse student’s interests to participate in the innovative discussion thus giving those low achievers the chance to get higher grades. The research will be conducted in such a way that the learners will shift from being bored of listening inside the classroom to a more meaningful, lively and participative mood due to hands-on and real life activities. It will be done with series of science related activities such as science fun games like Science Olympics and Challenge, Demonstrations, Field trips, Campus tour, Community involvement, etc. Respondents will be taken from first year high school students who will be diagnosed as low performing student based on the assessment given by the guidance counselor as their entrance test for high school and after a successive low scores and grades the learners will obtain prior to the specified topic to be dealt with by this research. Performance assessment answered by the students such as questions in the laboratory workbook, survey questionnaire and 15-item test will be given before the final exam so as to check whether the learners understand concepts or not. After getting the results, this information will be further studied and might somehow enhance the interest of low academic performers to participate and perform well class discussions particularly in science subject and at the same time a guide for teachers to have an innovative teaching strategies.
