Abstract/Summary
This study aims to investigate the role of conscientiousness in moderating the relationship between the Behavioral Approach System and methamphetamine use. 78 Filipino male adults diagnosed with substance use disorder with ages ranged from 20 to 55 years old participated in this study. The participants were given a questionnaire measuring conscientiousness, BAS and methamphetamine use. To test the hypothesis a moderated regression analysis was conducted with IBM’s SPSS. Methamphetamine use was entered as the dependent variable in the regression model, the predictor was BAS, and conscientiousness was added as a moderator. Data gathered produced high scores in BAS and conscientiousness. Scores on methamphetamine use of the respondents indicated that all of them are already experiencing drug related. BAS was significantly correlated with methamphetamine use. Conscientiousness was also significantly correlated with methamphetamine use. However, BAS is not significantly related to conscientiousness. The regression model for methamphetamine use was statistically significant. BAS and conscientiousness were found to be significant predictors of methamphetamine use. BAS, however, did not significantly interact with conscientiousness and failed to show that conscientiousness moderated the relationship between BAS and Methamphetamine use.
