Abstract/Summary

This insider action research details the record consolidation and data analytics project implemented in Logos Publications. In the first cycle, the record consolidation project started as an attempt to respond to the recurring concern on access to timely and relevant information among the various functional units. The project used Microsoft Excel to create database template to consolidate dispersed records, and other functions such as Pivot Table to generate summaries and lists of needed information. In the second cycle of the project, software use tutorial was organized in response to the request of Logos staff to have the required Excel skills. In addition, with the needed data in one place, data analytics was generated using the same Excel based functions and presented for discussion and operations improvement. Beside providing needed relevant and timely information, the project has evolved to become an inventory management system useful for monitoring and control of stocks inventory in the warehouse and in consignment to different partner outlet stores. Moreover, the project also simplified the reporting processes of the sales team eliminating repetitive task of manually preparing and encoding various periodical reports. The record consolidation and data analytics project not only resolved the need for access to timely and relevant information, but provided an opportunity for the organization to critically examine its performance as reflected in the information generated by data analytics and work to improve it. Moreover, the project also gave the Logos an important customer insight and knowledge which it can use to efficiently manage customer relationship for enhanced value proposition and greater value generation. What Logos has achieved is to show that organizations of any size can implement data analytics and take advantage of its invaluable insights to improve performance. Methods and tools are readily available to successfully materialize the project as long as the organization has the people willing to learn, collaborate and introduce positive changes.
