Abstract/Summary
This action research aims to create a Transition Benefit Program to the employees of Company L during its closure. Using the framework from Danehower and Lust (1992) on the determinants of employee benefit satisfaction, the researcher together with her collaborators aims to create a Transition Benefit Program that will meet the four determinants presented which includes benefit availability and level of coverage, cost structure of the benefit, employee needs, values and expectations and employee experience with benefit package components. One factor that we will also look into is the employer communication to the employees in delivering this benefit program.
The result of the first cycle was promising but needs improvement. We were able to meet two of the determinants while the two determinants were not fully met based on the feedbacks of the employees. The method of communication also played an important role on how the message was perceived.
Using the action research tools in the first-person, second-person and third-person inquiry, the researcher was able to identify which aspects needs to be improved and how.
With all the findings, the second cycle in the action research focused on adding benefits programs that addresses sustainability for the employees to further help them transition after their employment with the company. This was done by conducting focus group discussions to identify and address their wants and needs. As a result, all the employees were satisfied on the Transition Benefit Program that they will be receiving from Company L during its closure.
