Abstract/Summary

This study evaluated the existing guidance program of TA REN Girls' High School, Taipei City, using the CIPP Model by Stufflebeam and Guba which consists of four phases namely: Context, Input, Process and Product. Specifically the study was designed to answer the following questions, grouped according to the four evaluation phases that were conducted: A. Context Evaluation A.1 What are the guidance needs of the students of TA REN Girls' High School? A.2 What are the objectives of the guidance program of TA REN Girls' High? A.3 How congruent are these objectives with the needs of the clientele? B. Input Evaluation B.1 How adequate are the physical facilities and resources of the guidance program of TA REN for attaining its guidance program objectives? B.2 How qualified and adequate is the guidance staff in serving the needs of the clientele as indexed by: 2.1 their academic preparation? 2.2 the counselor-student ratio? B.3 What is the level of morale of the guidance counselors? B.4 What is the extent of collaboration among the counselors, the school administrators, and the class advisers in servicing student needs? C. Process Evaluation C.1 To what extent are the purported services of the guidance program being implemented? C.2. Are the services being offered by the guidance program of the respondent school congruent with the objectives of the program? C.3 What problems or difficulties have been met by the guidance and counselors in the performance of their guidance and counseling functions? C.4 What are the strengths and weaknesses of the schools' guidance services based on the perceptions of the guidance counselors, the administrators, and the class advisers?

D. Product Evaluation D.1 To what extent have the objectives of the guidance program been attained as perceived by the guidance counselors and the students? D.2 To what extent have the guidance needs of the students been satisfied? D3. Based on the suggestions of the administrators, the counselors, the class advisers, and the students, what guidance services have to be continued, improved, terminated, or introduced to respond to the students' unmet needs? Two hundred eighty five students, randomly chosen from all the junior and the senior year levels all the class advisers, administrators and counselors of TA REN High School served as the respondents in this study. The study yielded the following salient findings: A. Context Evaluation A.1 The needs assessment survey revealed the following strong needs of students: 1. Need to know their individual aptitudes, interests, strengths, limitations, potentials, and academic achievements in order to understand themselves better 2. Need for counseling concerning their personal, academic, social, career, and vocational problems 3. Need for career counseling and assistance in preparing for the college Entrance Examination 4. Need for orientation concerning curriculum and extra-curricular activities, and 5. Need for informational materials to acquire knowledge about adolescents' growth and development patterns.
