Abstract/Summary

Smarterone Philippines Company (www. smarterone.ph) is an SEC-registered general partnership company, with business headquarters in San Fernando City, Pampanga. It is founded by two young professionals, Mr. Michael Gan, an architect and an entrepreneur, and Mr. Renz Christian Argao, a practicing psychologist and a university instructor.

SmarterOne PH is online learning startup company which primarily addresses the need of the thousands of Filipino PRC registered professionals for accessible, convenient, and affordable Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Trainings and Seminars which is now a basic requirement for their license renewal because to the newly implemented CPD Law (RA 10912).

SmarterOne PH offers online and on-demand courses, trainings and distance learning by its online learning platform through its website – www.smarterone.ph and with Thinkific, a modern Learning Management System to deliver an engaging and professional type of mobile learning experience. Our learning platform hosts Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) – accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Provider, with Argao Center for Psychological Services its in-house course developer and provider for the Psychology and Psychometrician profession.

The company also offers corporate trainings and seminars in partnership with PrevHealth Inc, a health service provider to companies and workplaces.

The goal of Smarterone PH is to make become an established and reliable professional training company within the next 4 years which shall develop and offer more than 6 new training courses a year per professional industry. This will be realized through positive cash flow, and lean operational strategy.

The risks of running an online CPD trainings has many factors. First, the risk of being the first online CPD course for the Psychology and Psychometricians sets standards which can be used by competitors. Second, Filipino eLearning industry is in nascent stage, where this new type of learning is relatively new to them. Based on our surveys, majority of the learners experienced the online training for the first time. And lastly, the resource capital investment is low compared to its projected financial requirements.

The biggest issue that the company has faced is its external environment. After 2 years of implementing the CPD Law, Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) has issued a memorandum that created the transition period for all the regulated professionals that may need CPD trainings for their license renewal. This issue has dampened the demand for the CPD trainings among professionals.
