Abstract/Summary

Purpose. The purpose of this Action research paper is to introduce digitization and retail to a small family business engaged in wholesale and distribution for the purpose of business sustainability, and to help the company survive and grow amidst the pandemic.

Design. This action research is based on the Action research Cycle Design by Coghlan and Brannick (2014). This research went through three (3) cycles of construction, planning action, taking action, and evaluating action. All studies, discussion and analyses were collaboratively conducted.

Findings. This action research yielded insights and information which challenged the traditional approach of marketing and selling by a small family business in order to achieve the desired outcome.

Value. This action research paper provides a new perspective to long-time small Filipino family businesses who desire to innovate, grow their businesses, and stay competitive in the marketplace. It also encourages collaboration in small family business, and upholds the values of family spirit, “malasakit,” adaptability and optimism.

Research limitation. The action research is limited to one of the two business sections of Ajia Machine Shop: importation, wholesale and distribution of sports accessories made of metal
