Abstract/Summary

In this era of technology, information plays an important resource for different organizations in their operations and management activities. Possessing timely information and the proper reporting and analytic capabilities to interpret data enhances the ability to make evidence-based decisions. And these decisions can help the team drive actions to ultimately meet organizational objectives. This action research project aimed to improve the efficiency of report creation process of the IT Operations Applications Management Organization in XYZ Company, a multinational consumer goods corporation. Application Support Managers usually take 2 to 3 hours to perform a series of data extractions, filtering, and chart generations to finish the IT health reports, which we found to be too frustrating and time-consuming. Through action research, I orchestrated the collaboration between different teams to properly construct the issue, plan and implement actions and finally to evaluate the intervention.

Deployment of business intelligence dashboard was the main intervention performed to improve the efficiency of the report creation process. This allowed the Applications Support Managers to reduce the time required to create the IT health reports by 80%, trimming it down to 10-20 minutes, which made the report creation process more efficient.
