Abstract/Summary

This action research presents an alternative way of analyzing store performance that departs from traditional audit and store visits. This addresses the issues on incomplete analysis of stores and increasing company losses. Completion of this action research was made possible due to the help of collaborators Senior Financial Analyst (SFA), Senior Internal Auditor (SIA) and Store Managers. The top managements support was also solicited for the approval of the proposed change the implementation and usage of cost analysis templates. Interviews, meetings and discussions were conducted in order to formulate a user-friendly template. Benefits of these templates were emphasized as to not be construed as just another task and additional burden. Aside from monitoring and analyzing, the templates were designed to help the management raise cost-conscious managers. Such objective, together with the Company's goals of profitability and productivity, was achieved after a number of trainings and practice. I realized that company goals need not only be known to the top management but should also be parted to the employees for a common aim. When Store Managers were exposed to the objective of cost reduction, rationale behind these tasks and activities became clearer. Above all, I learned that a strong foundation of awareness is vital for the success of any implemented change.
