Abstract/Summary

International studies have cited the lack of financial resilience among members of the military. This has been associated with financial inexperience, the cost of deployment and being away from the family or home. As a result, the financial resilience of military personnel is one of the lowest compared with their civilian counterpart. The present study investigates the relationship of savings and investment behavior among selected military personnel of the Philippine Army. These variables are assumed to be directly influenced by gender, age, pay scale, and their level of consumption. Data gathering procedures will involve the use of the Philippine Army's payroll database, a survey, and interviews. The statistical treatment of study will make use of: a.) frequency and percentage to account for the proportion of participants in terms of age, gender, pay scale, and savings; b.) Linear regression to establish the relationship between savings behavior and investment behavior with that of the independent variables; c.) T-Test will be used to compare the difference in means if and when they are established to be significant among the dependent and independent variables; d.) Goodness of Fit was applied to the variables in order to determine how well these variables fit to undergo an omnibus test; e.) Omnibus Test was done to determine if investment habit is influenced by consumption, gender, pay scale and age in the study. Results of the interview will be added to the statistical findings to add more depth to the discussion. The results of the study will hopefully provide a basis in the design and development of a financial literacy program for the members of the Philippine Army.
