Abstract/Summary

This study was undertaken to discover the teaching effectiveness of the high school faculty of St. Augustine's School along seven areas of competence, namely : planning, organization and motivation, subject matter competency, teaching methods and techniques, evaluation and follow-up, classroom management, personality traits, and professional traits. The two specific questions that were raised by the problem were: 1) How do the teachers rate along the seven areas of competence as evaluated by (a) the students, (b) the administrator, and (c) their own self-evaluators? 2) Is there a significant agreement among the three sets of evaluators in the ratings given to the teachers along the seven areas of competence? The principal tool used in this study for gathering the needed data was the questionnaire on teaching effectiveness. The study made use of three sets of questionnaires, that is, one set for each of the evaluators: the students, the administrator, and the teachers. Then the weighted mean of each area and of each set of evaluators was computed. To determine if there were significant differences in the ratings per evaluator, the Friedman two-way analysis of variance for ranks was used. On the other hand, to determine the significance of the computed value, the Chi square table was used. Finally, the Kendall's Coefficient of Concordance (w) was employed to determine if there was a significant agreement among the three sets of evaluators in their ratings of teachers along the seven areas of competence.
