Abstract/Summary

Gabriel and Obara (2013) in their article entitled Management Information Systems and Corporate Decision Making: A Literature Review mentioned that the information needs of modern organizations have become quite enormous and challenging to the extent that every organization needs to pay great attention to how information is gathered, stored, disseminated and utilized. The Company's business processes related to managing operational and financial information were deemed to be inefficient and prone to manual errors. This was mainly manifested through (1) unavailability of timely and accurate information and reports to aid managerial decision-making, (2) errors in business process outputs, and (3) long working hours of the business process owners. To emphasize the importance of timely and accurate information and reports, Laudon and Laudon (2012) stated that many business managers operate in an information fog bank, never really having the right information at the right time to make an informed decision. Information systems and technologies have made it possible for managers to use realtime data when making decisions as cited by Laudon and Laudon (2012). Similarly, OBrien and Marakas (2011) also stated that Information technology can help all kinds of businesses improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their business processes and managerial decision-making, which strengthens their competitive positions in rapidly changing marketplaces. In terms of information systems and technologies, the Company has only been relying on Microsoft Excel for its business operations while its peers have gained competitive advantage by leveraging on integrated business software systems specifically designed for advertising agencies.
