Abstract/Summary

The issue addressed in this AR project was the low usage of the executive information system (EIS). The objectives of the project were to increase usage of the executive information system in terms of reduction in paper, email and text reports by 50% and to ensure timely delivery of information to the Office of the General Manager from 6 days to 1 day.

The AR project adopted the Technology Acceptance Model as its conceptual framework and used Lewins Change Management Model to manage the change process. The first AR cycle introduced user acceptance training and conducted system adjustments to improve the ease of use and to enhance perceived usefulness of the information system. The second AR cycle was done to eliminate redundancies in work by integrating the executive information system with the data from an existing system in the organization.

After completing the interventions, we met the objectives of the project. Increasing the usage of the executive information system has resulted in 53% reduction in other channels of reporting (text, email and paper reports) and improved delivery of data to real-time basis (1 day). After the completion of the AR project, we recommended to sustain the usage of the EIS by conducting continuous monitoring of the system to determine areas for improvement. Secondly, we recommended creating internal marketing efforts such as refresher courses on the EIS and alerts on new information on EIS to sustain the change. Lastly, we also recommended widening the scope of information in the EIS to include information from supporting business units not yet covered in the EIS. This would further establish EIS as the central repository of data in ABC Company.
