Abstract/Summary

The main purpose of this action research is to address the issue of significant decline in employees participation to knowledge management (KM) initiative of PSG-Manila. The decline in participation signified an early disengagement of employees that I and my collaborators, the KM core group, believed may extend to succeeding phase implementations if not addressed.

Collaboration with the KM core group members, the leadership team, department managers, and the subject matter experts was done throughout the four steps of the action research (AR) cycles. By going through the AR cycles, we realized that the key factors we need to attend to for successful implementation and sustainability of the knowledge management program of the company are related to those that can influence mindset and human behavior, not merely those that are technical in nature

The KM core group reflected on the issues from the two research cycles and collaboratively addressed them. We adopted a Change Strategy Plan that focused on improving employees behavior and mindset towards KM. Part of the strategy was to sustain employees engagement by using different engagement and communication tactics. As a result, we observed increased participation rate and membership to communities of practice (CoP) groups, marked interest among employees shown by their submission of knowledge sharing entries, as well as positive feedback from employees. From this study, we learned to value employees concern on competency development through learning from the known experts. Thus, we came up with face-to-face knowledge sharing sessions that were facilitated by the SMEs.
