Abstract/Summary

This Action Research aims to address the recurring conflict between the Sales and Accounting Department of Gateway Network Solutions Inc. Currently, this issue has been creating other issues such as customer complaints and negative working environment between the two departments. However, upon using the Thomas-Killman conflict framework, the collaboration style helped us to solve the sources of conflicts. Through Face-to-Face meetings and dialogues, each department was able to discuss their perspectives and stands about the sources of conflicts, hence came up with a Win-Win solution favorable to both. To sustain the open and effective communication between these departments and to avoid other conflicts to happen again, it was also agreed to have a Quarterly Interdepartmental Meeting to give updates and to discuss issues regarding the operation of the business and the customers. But upon further evaluation, the need to develop the interpersonal relationship of each employee has been identified since the first intervention adhered only to the workplace relationship needed in the operation of the business. We decided to conduct a Teambuilding to deepen our interpersonal relationship as well as to gather commitments for sustainability. We formulated a Code of Teamwork posted in our lobby that serves as a daily reminder on how to treat others. Starting constructing, Planning Action, Taking Action and Evaluation stage, the collaboration on identification of the focal issue and doing the two interventions make this Action Research paper successful to attain the set objectives of reducing Interdepartmental conflicts and creating an open and effective communication environment in our workplace.
