Abstract/Summary

Managing information as a resource is an important managerial activity (Maritz, n.d.). Information is data that has been given meaning by way of relational connection and processed to be useful (Bellinger, Castro, & Mills). Accurate and timely information enables managers to plan and execute the proper strategies that shall enable the company to address its needs and achieve its goals.

M Cosmetics, Inc. is an international manufacturer and direct selling company engaged in the field of beauty and personal care. With the rise of new means of selling products such as online marketing, companies such as M Cosmetics need to be steadfast in managing its sustainable growth. One critical aspect of its operations is the exchange of information between the Head office employees and its Field Team.

At present, it takes three to five days for the Sales Development Unit (SDU) of M Cosmetics to process approximately 30 reports that managers need to effectively monitor the performance of its sales teams. This has been so ever since however, the company's goal to hit sales targets, expand and recruit more sales representatives in its branches requires SDU to craft means to become more efficient in report generation.

This action research led to the identification and resolution of the root cause of the long report processing time. In doing so, the project identified the need to create a central data file which SDU processors can use to generate reports. This paper will show the improvements made on the timeliness of the reports while maintaining their accuracy and ensuring KPI achievement by SDU and the Field Team.
