Abstract/Summary
This integrative action research addressed the focal issue involving the lack of competencies needed to support the transactional practice group. Lewin's force field analysis helped in identifying possible interventions by targeting two forces that hinder change. To address the two restraining forces - previous work experience and educational background - the team designed and implemented training sessions to bring about the needed competencies to perform a transactional research. Upon implementation of the training sessions, exercises were given to assess whether the participants learned from the training. A meeting was also held to solicit the team's insights and feedback, which were used in the design and implementation of the second cycle of the action research.
During the second cycle, a documentation containing the procedures of common transactional requests was created and the skeletal staff for the Holy Week was also implemented. Meanwhile, the delegation of transactional requests was also executed.
Coghlan and Brannick's four-step action research cycle and Lewin's unfreeze-change- refreeze model served as guide in designing and implementing the two cycles of this action research. Through the interventions implemented, the Global Research team is now capable of supporting research requests for the transactional practice group. Hence, this project reaffirmed the value of training as a method of learning and development. However, training must be supplemented by other forms of learning to be truly effective.
