Abstract/Summary

This study describes the dating experiences of selected young adults in Metro Manila. This also specifies the personal profile of the participants, their dating experiences prior to and via Tinder usage. In-depth interviews from twenty (20) purposively selected young adults were conducted in selected cities of Metro Manila. Most of the young adults are between the ages of 18-21. Majority of male and female young adults are not in a relationship. The study reveals the difference of dating someone prior to usage on Tinder and upon its utilization. Dating prior to its usage on Tinder are found to have clearer motives of being in a serious commitment as compared to using Tinder as a medium for dating. The intent behind its usage is the instant gratification of services that it offers to young adults. Aside from this, the young adults are satisfied of the result that they were able to receive throughout the process. The satisfaction is purely based on the activation of new friendships, connections, hook up buddies, and finding someone who can be used as a diversion for a short period of time. On the other note, results reveal that there are more female young adults, who are in a relationship, utilize Tinder to keep themselves preoccupied from the issue they have with their boyfriends. In contrast, male and female young adults, who are not in a relationship, maximize the features of Tinder for their own personal interests only.
