Abstract/Summary

Record, by nature, contains information pertaining to an organizations activity and can therefore be classified as assets. In the light of management practice, records management is deemed essential considering that the contents of a records management system can be used by the organization for any future decision making options and historical reference of a valuable transaction. Likewise, records management also depicts how an organization accurately and efficiently comply with the requirements of its internal and external stakeholders. This action research aims to improve the records management system of LE Division of Company MCM in response to issues related to missing documents, unorganized files and records, inaccurate reports, and inability to attend to customer concerns. This action research made use of different methods to capture the issue at hand, specifically the ORJI, ladder of inference, journalizing, one on one sessions, and informal meetings. To guide me in implementing the interventions, I used the concepts on records management, records and information lifecycle, and the integrated framework of managing electronic records to create the records management system fit for the needs of our division. I also applied the use of change management model that focused on moving behaviors to adopt to implemented systems and procedures. In collaboration with the department managers and traders, the result of this action research is the improvement of the records management in our division resulting to the creation of filing procedures and guidelines and centralized records management system.
