Abstract/Summary

This exploratory study seeks to obtain a profile of the teachers in all the diocesan secondary schools of Ilocos Norte. Descriptive survey is the method used in the study. The basic data-gathering device was a three-page questionnaire which consisted of four study categories: 1) Professional and Academic Work, 2) Human Relations, 3) Working Environment in the School, and 4) Reward System. The researcher made use of various self-evaluative questionnaires and check lists in the construction of the instrument. Items relevant to her study were picked out from the RVM Form C - Teachers' Self-Evaluation Checklist and Self-examination for the Teachers, faculty handbook of Sta. Scholastica's College and St. Mary's College. Frequency, mean and percentage were used as statistical treatment. All the 78 teachers engaged in full-time classroom teaching in all the Diocesan secondary schools of Ilocos Norte were included in this study.

The study set forth the following summary: 1) The profile of the secondary teachers in the Diocesan Schools of Ilocos Norte showed that the teachers are relatively young in age and experience, majority are single, quite committed to their work, on the whole are cooperative with the administration, and dedicated to their duties and responsibilities 2) The study showed that the teachers tend to see that their professional and academic work in these schools provide them with opportunities to take active participation in school oriented activities one where they may take advantage of what is there with regard to opportunities for professional growth and, one where they are trying to do well their school duties and responsibilities 3) Teachers tend to see their relationship as one of wholehearted cooperation with the administration, sincere respect and interest in their fellow teachers and availability for service to their students 4) As to their appraisal of their working environment, the teachers indicated that the laboratory facilities and equipment and sanitary toilet facilities need more attention and improvement than all others 5) As to the school's reward system, the teachers consider their salary as inadequate and not commensurate to their work load, academic competence and profession.
