Abstract/Summary

BPOs have been booming in this country. Since BPOs have a shiftwork schedule, this study aimed to find out if there was a relationship between the shiftwork schedule of bpo employees and interaction with family and peers. The study utilized the survey method among a sample of 100 bpo employees in three BPOs located in Metro Manila. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution, cross-tabulation methods, and statistical tests. Findings of the study suggest that respondents working night shifts more frequently experienced health concerns compared to respondents working rotating shifts. Rotating shifters can work day shifts, mid shifts, and night shifts. They may get more sleep and rest compared to night shifters who are permanently working at night. In spite of services available in their workplace, the respondents still have sleep problems and other health problems. Moreover sleep deprivation and feeling sleepy when awake were the most frequently experienced sleep problems of bpo employees while gastrointestinal diseases such as diarrhea and ulcer along with stress were the most frequent other health problems experienced by bpo employees. Furthermore, the study recognizes that there is a relationship between health concerns and interaction with family and peers. These health concerns may deter them from attending all events and activities of family members and peers, but bpo employees still try to communicate and spend time with peers and family.
