Abstract/Summary

This study describes the relationship between the socio-demographic and sports-related characteristic of the collegiate basketball players and their perceived level of cohesiveness. Moreover, it determined the associations and relationship of their perceived level of cohesiveness with their level of team performance. This study used quantitative methodological approach with the use of survey as its data collection method. Self-administered questionnaires were used to gather the needed data. The researcher selected thirty-two collegiate basketball players from selected universities within Metro Manila, with eight coming from each university, that are part of the UAAP or NCAA. A purposive non-probability sampling was used in choosing the respondents of the study. Findings show that that no significant relationship has been found between socio-demographic and sports-related characteristics of the collegiate basketball players and their perceived level of cohesiveness. On the other hand, findings show that there is a significant relationship between the perceived level of cohesiveness of the basketball players and their level of team performance. In addition, significant relationship has also been found between shared goals domain of perceived level of cohesiveness and level of team performance. The findings allowed the researcher to conclude that the level of cohesiveness among basketball players is a determinant to their level of team performance.
