Abstract/Summary

v. 1. This study made use of the comparative survey type of investigation. To obtain the data needed for this study, the research tool used was the questionnaire, devised and used by Brother Antonio Narciso FSC (1974). The study took the universe or total population of the students, faculty and parents of Assumption School of Davao (ASD), High School Department, when the investigation was conducted. There were 504 students (157 freshmen, 131 sophomores, 108 juniors and 108 seniors), 17 teachers, and 206 parents. Statistical tools used were the means, frequencies, percentages and analysis of variance. The study arrived at the following conclusions : 1) The faculty and the parents have a favorable attitude toward the academic standard of the school if the school will adopt a coeducation program. The students, however, are undecided or just neutral. It is also worthwhile to note that while the students are neutral in their attitude toward this variable, they do favor like the faculty and parents, the statement that the boys can provide rich exchange of experience in classroom learning. 2. The faculty, students and parents manifest the attitude that coeducation may enhance the personality development of students. 3. The students, faculty and parents are of the opinion that the teaching efficiency of teachers may either be maintained or improved with a coeducation program. 4. The students, faculty and parents have a general favorable attitude toward coeducation. 5. Although all the respondents show favorable attitudes toward a coeducation program for ASD, there are significant differences among their attitudes. 6. There are no significant differences between the attitudes of students in different year levels.

v. 2. This is a feasibility study of a coeducation program for the High School department of Assumption School of Davao (ASD) by a study of four important factors considered in a proposal for such a program. These factors are enrollment, finances, human resources, and physical facilities of the school. This study made use of past records and other data taken from the school administrative records. From the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. By setting the first year enrollment at 200 and projecting the enrollment for a period of five years, the enrollment at ASD High School will follow an upward trend. This is especially true if the coeducational proposal is accepted, that is, the male graduates of the school's elementary department are accepted. This trend is definitely indicative of the high school survival for the next five years. 2. It is proven that an increase of enrollment due to the assumption that the male graduates of the elementary department are accepted, will improve the financial picture of the high school within a period of five years. 3. With the increase in enrollment, ASD High School will need additional teachers over the span of five years: four for SY 19777-1978, 2 for SY 1978-1979 and two for SY 1980-1981. 4. The inventory of physical resources reveal that ASD High School has the potentials to take in an influx of students, including boys, up to its maximum capacity of 700 students in a regular class schedule. Two of the three laboratories which are standard-size classrooms can also be fully utilized, with proper scheduling, as classrooms instead of remaining vacant for three periods of the seven regular class periods a day.

v. 3. Twenty-one of the twenty-five elementary teachers of Colegio de Santo Nino sought a meeting with the School Directress and poured out their complaints against the Principal. They accused their principal of being very dogmatic, of making puppets out of them, of being very traditional and unreasonable and of being a discouraging leader. The alternatives for action presented by this case were: A. Alternatives open to the directress were: 1. Inform the principal of what transpired in the meeting so the principal could defend herself 2. Arrange a dialogue between the principal and some representatives of the teachers 3. Require a written complaint from the teachers as valid proof to show the principal 4. Leave the principal to decide what to do, or warn her about her refusal to upgrade herself 5. Remind the principal of the Department Order regarding qualifications of a principal 6. Examine whether her initial meeting with the teachers was right whether she should have scheduled a dialogue with everybody instead of meeting the teachers right away or whether she should have clarified more on the issues before deciding to meet the teachers. The alternatives open to the principal were: 1. Pretend to be ignorant of the meeting 2. Call the teachers and demand explanation of their leaving the classes or 3. See the directress for clarification. The teachers' alternatives were: 1. Think whether they were right to see the directress instead of the principal 2. whether they should have formed a committee instead of their whole group meeting with the directress or 3. whether they should have written down their complaints and furnished the principal a copy.
