Abstract/Summary

This study examines the use of ICTs among women in 8 health centers within Barangay Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. A face-to-face interview was utilized using an interview schedule with 75 women (i.e. 42 pregnant women who are at the last trimester of their pregnancy and 33 women who are on the first three months after they gave birth were interviewed).

Data showed that most of the respondents are married (88%), not highly educated, unemployed (i.e. fulltime housewife, 88%) and earning below the poverty threshold. Most participants had access to mobile phones and use it for texting their family members regarding pregnancy concerns, while majority of them (98.67%) believed that nutritional needs and physical fitness are very important during the course of their pregnancy.

Furthermore, age and physical capacity issues among women during and after their pregnancy are significantly associated with the type of ICT they use. It implies that the use of ICT among women in Barangay Bagong Silang for their pregnancy concerns is only for emergencies determined by their physiological limitations and maturity.
