Abstract/Summary

This study investigated the possible adaptive and social behavioral outcomes being displayed by Filipino female inmates undertaking a Therapeutic Community modality program at Quezon City Female Dormitory. According to previous investigations, the TC approach was deemed effective in helping the treatment for the female inmates, specifically those who had cases of substance-abuse and drug dealing. Thirty (30) female inmates were chosen and grouped together according to their length of stay in the program either in 6, 12 or 18 months. The study was anchored on three theories introduced by Johnson (2002), De Leon (2000), and Gresham & Elliott (1987) which helped conceptualized the twelve behavioral subdomains used for the study. Utilizing a behavioral outcomes interview questionnaire, the results from face-to-face interviews showed that the different behavioral outcomes both Adaptive and Social emerged from the female inmates. The study also showed different trends in terms of the frequency of behavioral outcomes evidenced as the length of stay in the program increases. In addition, the study showed the differences for each behavioral subdomain in terms of the behavioral outcomes practiced by the female inmates either for a longer or shorter period of time. Then, there was also a common emphasis among all behavioral outcomes under a specific period of time in the program. It was expressed that future researchers should look into examining specific aspects of TC modality program such as in different contexts or in different types of groups.
