Abstract/Summary

Banks play a vital role in the society by providing intermediation service by borrowing depositors money to infuse in the economic stream via investments. Through the years, competition in the Philippine banking industry intensified considerably causing banks to differentiate themselves through the products and services they offer. There are different kinds of Banks that the Bangko Sentral overseas. The paper will be focusing on the Thrift Banks in the Philippines. Thrift Banks are oriented towards serving retail customers and examples of these are Loan and Savings Associations, Private Development Bank and Savings Bank.

The study would focus on the thrift bank, BPI Family Savings Bank. Data gathered are obtained from annual reports, communication peripherals and news items. As a subsidiary of the Bank of the Philippines Islands, it shares the same mission and vision as well as the strategic thrust of the company.

The paper further discussed the opportunities and threats in the industry and how the Bank can take advantage of its strengths as well as overcome its weaknesses.

The paper aims to prepare a strategic plan to be able to keep a steady foothold in the industry that it is in.
